As our school continues to grow and flourish we are introducing additional roles. This is an exciting opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Chilton Bridge School.
Chilton Bridge School is an independent specialist school set within a beautiful location near Yeovil, Somerset. We adopt a creative, individualised approach for students who have barriers to learning associated with social, emotional, mental health and ASC needs. Our curriculum approach, Enterprise Learning, allows our students to rebuild confidence in their abilities, feel safe and supported, and gain skills and knowledge that will allow them to thrive in the modern world.
We are looking to appoint a friendly and confident Kitchen Assistant to help with the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in a school kitchen. This role will work to support the school cook/Kitchen Manager in ensuring that students receive nutritious meals on time. The role includes food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and supporting compliance with health and safety standards.
They may also work to deliver curriculum interventions by supporting students working within the kitchen and supporting relevant projects.
The successful applicant should have good communication and the ability to follow instructions and work under time pressure. The role will also require a level of physical stamina for standing, lifting, and cleaning. Basic food hygiene knowledge is also required.
Duties will include:
- Assisting with basic food preparation (e.g., chopping vegetables, preparing sandwiches)
- Serving food to students in the kitchen/community room or dining hall
- Cleaning kitchen areas, equipment, and washing dishes and utensils
- Helping with stock checks and food deliveries.
- Following health and safety regulations
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of visitors, pupils, and staff
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen in accordance with health and safety, food hygiene and COSHH regulations at all times
- Ensure hygienic storage in accordance with domestic and catering standards
- Operate and ensuring maintenance of kitchen equipment, following training.
The working hours of this post are circa 15 hours per week, term time only from 11:00am – 2:00pm. There may some flexibility around the hours worked.
The advertised salary is based on 15 hours over 39 weeks.
